Simple Steps To Help Create Your Elegant Wedding Invitations

>> Saturday, August 21, 2010

Your wedding ceremony is so incredibly important so you want to be sure it is represented by equally elegant wedding invitations. These will really become the cornerstone of the event, and set the tone for the rest of wedding. Aside from the save the date cards, if you elect to send them, the elegant wedding invitation is the first glimpse into the look and feel and theme of your wedding. In many cases the time and money are not as heavily invested into the save the date cards so the letterpress invitations really set the stage. With this in mind, it becomes increasingly important to ensure your wedding invitation is exactly how you envision it and that it is crafted with the utmost care and attention to detail. Remember, the invitation is also a reflection of the bride and groom and are unique in this way. It must be tasteful, elegant and literally a work of art for your guest to see.

There are many choices to be made when creating such a masterpiece. You want to be sure you are going to work with a designer that has similar taste. If you don’t like the designs that are shown, don’t think they can design something for you differently, and you will end up liking it. Start with a designer you like and play off of that style to make your invitation different. If you like her fall wedding invitation designs, you will probably like what they can do for a spring invitation. If you do work with a designer or are designing the invitation yourself, you want to make sure they are familiar with the printing process you will be using. For instance, letterpress printing has some limitations that digital printing doesn’t. It also looks better designed a certain way based on the paper you choose. Also know that there will be slight variations in ink colors especially on solid areas that are inked. A designer familiar with letterpress printing knows these issues and how to best design around them.

Another choice to make is the paper selection. For the most part we believe that the thicker papers are better for letterpress. They augment and capture the real beauty of the impression and tactile nature of the process. Using a tree free paper such as a 100% reclaimed cotton paper, can really make a beautiful invitation pop into a truly fabulous piece of art. Be careful though, not all cotton papers are the same. For instance Crane’s lettra tends to be a dryer paper and though it may receive the impression well, it often can leave cracking around the impression. Many printers will actually wet each piece before printing to try to counter this affect. But there are other brands that are not so brittle. To some though, other paper characteristics are better suited to the look and feel of their invitation. Some of these include a deckled edge, colored envelopes, environmental factors such as recycled paper or they want something clean and simple which is often found in traditional smooth finished papers. Why You Should Use Save The Date Cards

Many brides are using save the date cards to give wedding guests notification of the upcoming wedding. The card is most often used for weddings and precedes the wedding invitation but I can be used for other social events as well. It simply allows a participant to make the necessary arrangements to attend the wedding with plenty of time to spare. So if you are sending Fall wedding invitations you certainly would want the save the date cards out in the Spring. They are not mandatory and you don't have to send one. You could just get on the phone and call everyone or send an email to your invitees and let them know. You can also just send the invitation and not do any type of save the date. This will likely result in lower attendees to your wedding but you can also just send your elegant wedding invitation earlier. Save the dates should only be sent to those friends and family that you really want to attend the wedding.

The cards are typically mailed three to six months ahead of the wedding event. In some cases, especially a destination wedding, they be sent a year in advance if the event needs additional timing or revolves around a major holiday like Christmas or the Fourth of July so they can make air reservations and purchase tickets for lower fares in advance.

Similar to the wedding invitation, you should be clear whose is invited on the save the date card as well. I would include each name of the guest you want to attend. You will avoid any unwelcome guest or children if you can be as specific as possible.

The type of event you are having really helps determine the design and style of your save the date card. If it is preceding a wedding, then ideally you want the save the date card to set the stage for the arrival of the wedding invitation. So it should be of similar paper stock and exemplify the theme theme of your wedding and taste. If you know the theme of your wedding you can tie the wedding save the date cards in very easily by just using the same motif, ink colors or monogram on the save the date card.

There are many styles and printers on and offline who can print your save the date cards. It is probably easier for most to use online resources to do so. The wording for your card should short and sweet and get to the point. Here is how a simple save the date should read: read more here
